PSBSC Success in the Gunn Trophy

Five of Plockton’s junior sailors travelled to Lochcarron to represent PSBSC in the Gunn Trophy, the annual inter-club competition for school-age Topper sailors. Plockton was able to field a strong team of Ruraigh James, Colleen Gollan, Christopher Townend, Sarah Robertson and Grace Claxton (Murrin Kennedy was also selected for the team but was forced to pull out with illness).

In total 17 Toppers were out on the water, with four races run on an afternoon of grey skies but a good breeze. With so many boats on the water, the start line was congested and competitive, providing excellent racing experience. Notable individual results for PSBSC sailors were Ruaridh James who secured a 1st place in the second race of the afternoon and Grace Claxton who progressed from 14th place in the first race to 2nd place in the final race of the series.

Overall Plockton finished extremely creditably behind Lochcarron, but ahead of visiting teams from Lairg and Kinlochbervie.

After a really fun and exciting event, competition for next year’s team looks likely to be strong with a new crop of junior sailors joining the club and already showing signs of an appetite for racing.
